Kafka Effect: World Architecture Update
Building a post-apocalyptic MMORPG is not primarily a technical challenge. It is a world-building challenge.
The technology serves the world. The world serves the story. The story serves the community.
The Kafka Incident
At the center of the Kafka Effect universe is an event: the Incident. A fracture in reality that split the world into multiple layers, each with its own rules, its own factions, and its own interpretation of what happened.
Players do not just exist in this world. They inherit the consequences of the Incident and, through their actions, shape what comes after it.
World Architecture Principles
We are building around three core principles:
1. Persistent consequence. Actions in the game world do not reset. Factions remember. The economy responds. The lore updates. A decision made in one part of the world creates ripples across the others.
2. Cross-medium canon. The comics, the mobile game, and the MMORPG exist in the same universe. Lore that appears in a comic becomes part of the game world. Player actions in the MMORPG feed back into the narrative expansion.
3. Community authorship. The universe is too large for a single studio to write. We are building systems that allow communities to contribute — within the structural framework we define.
